【Day 4】 Iceland 5-Day Trip

Day 4 was still spent wandering around the capital city~

Höggmyndagarðurinn Sculpture Park

Next to Hallgrímskirkja there is a small park with many sculptures, free to visit. Very quiet, with very few tourists. Beside the garden there is also a paid museum, The Einar Jónsson Museum, which we did not enter. The statues are actually quite exquisite, but personally I am not great at appreciating art, so I just took a quick look and left.

Strolling Around the City Center

Then headed to the city center, passing by the square in front of Hallgrímskirkja again, which features the statue of the famous Icelandic explorer Leifur Eiríksson. A seagull perching on top of the great man’s statue head was kind of funny.

Zooming in you can even see white droppings left on his head...

After that, ate a freshly baked croissant from a bakery on the street~

Very pretty!

An orange kitty by the street~ Super cute~

Sleeping peacefully~

When coming back in the afternoon, the kitty was still lying in the exact same spot, such a cozy life~

Also saw a tree full of pigeons by the roadside(

Looks like there is good food on the tree

Also encountered a super lively, agile, and cute kitty by the street! Looking at the pattern, it looks like a Bengal cat!

Curiously scratching something on the ground

Pouncing and rolling back and forth~ paws are so cute!!1

Yawning!!

Such a beautiful pattern!

A statue encountered while walking by the sea. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the US and Iceland. The US has been Iceland’s big daddy for a long time…

Don’t really understand what this shape represents (

It was still gloomy by the sea, which is probably the norm for Iceland. Compared to yesterday, it feels like two completely different vibes.

All clouds

The mountain opposite is also covered by clouds

Not many pedestrians on the streets. Not many tourists either.

Very peaceful

Walked to Höfði House again. Under the cloudy sky, it even looks a bit eerie.

Not a single soul in sight

Historical introduction of Höfði House

The location of Höfði House is wonderful, literally ocean view housing. Opening the window, you can see Mount Esja across the sea. Living in such a beautiful environment, no wonder it could nurture famous painters.

Front view of Höfði House

The little seagull nearby is cute, such long legs

There is also an automatic lawn mower on the lawn of Höfði House

Icelandic rainbow flag symbolizing freedom and Harpa Concert Hall in the distance

This seems to be an office area, so many parked cars

Truly completely deserted...

Wanted to eat lunch, so searched for nearby Chinese restaurants on Google Maps. Turned out one single Icelandic lamb skewer costs 600 Icelandic Krona (about 6.18 SGD). For this price in China I could buy more than ten skewers QAQ

The price of food in Iceland is still way too expensive

Reykjavik City Hall

Having nothing to do, decided to walk over to Reykjavik City Hall (Ráðhús Reykjavíkur). Next to Tjörnin Lake outside the City Hall, there were lots of seagulls, pigeons, and ducks. The small houses in the distance are colorful, and although the weather was gloomy, it still had a unique charm.

Kind of cute

There are also many statues outside City Hall. But my personal artistic taste is not high enough, some are hard for me to appreciate(

A bit artistic now

Inside City Hall there is not much to see, some travel guides, plus a large 3D map of Iceland.

So many mountains in Iceland!

The view by this lake is still very beautiful! In the distance you can even see the top of Hallgrímskirkja. There is also quite a lot of pretty greenery by the lake.

Scenery outside the City Hall window

That building on the left is City Hall

Spring (

Summer (

Autumn (

Also in Reykjavik you can often see planes flying super close to the ground, looking massive! Probably because Reykjavik Airport is right nearby.

Giant aeroplane

Dinner

Today’s dinner was instant noodles bought at the supermarket for 60 Icelandic Krona… taste was very ordinary (after all it was just to fill the stomach). Of course cannot forget skyr! Today was pudding flavor~ but felt like it was not as tasty as the fruit flavors.
